Dr. Charitha L. Goonasekara

I am a professor in Biochemistry attached to the Department of Preclinical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Sri Lanka (KDU). I received my BSc (hons) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (2002) from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, and the PhD in Protein Biochemistry (2008) from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. I carried out two years of Post-doctoral training at the Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia (2008-2010).

My main areas of research interests are, the diagnosis and therapeutics of Infectious diseases, and natural product chemistry. Currently I am conducting research focused on dengue virus; in particular, the biochemical and immunological aspects of dengue viral infections, structure of dengue viral proteins, etc.. I have several postgraduate students carrying out their MPhil and PhD degrees under my supervision. Currently I’m the Head of the Department of Preclinical Sciences, KDU.
